Today, I just wanted to say thank you.
For those times when we were little and we were too tired to walk to our beds and so you carried us (even when we were teenagers already); for the times you started sing-alongs of "Alouette" in the car to keep us from fighting (we never did know the French words to that song), for the bedtime stories that you made up night after night (an entires series of "Baby Big Eyes the Owl" - you have always been the best actor and storyteller, Dad).
Do you remember you always joked with us and said that you were going to send us all to Stellenbosch University to study and that we were not allowed to come back until we'd bagged ourselves a rich wine farmer's son each? (By the way, was that really a joke?!) Anyway, now that us three girls are grown and married to Greeks, Italians and Englishmen respectively (sorry, no millionaires in there dad- although I suspect that we all chose our husbands with your qualities in mind, dad) and have our own children, I appreciate all that love and effort you put in even more. I know that it couldn't have been easy being a dad to three girls but God definitely knew who to choose for that role.
We say it too little and not often enough:
I love you!
Happy Father's Day!
My kids and I got my dad and my husband both a few things from the wonderful selection of Father's Day spoils at CNA:
