The Best things in life are free and The Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Two idioms that just prove themselves over and over to be so true, right?
I recently collaborated with CNA - the SA stationery and news agency giant - on “What’s Your Story” - a campaign focused on a diverse group of South Africans in the creative industry and how CNA has influenced their childhoods and lives today.
I didn’t really have to think long and hard about that one (do you remember all the Pilot BPS Fine pens you went through, all the exam pads and Learner’s License study books, all bought at CNA?) My dad even special-ordered My Little Ponies from a CNA branch close to his office in Pretoria Central so he wouldn’t have to listen to our constant nagging anymore!
But my favourite memory must be the ones of my sisters and I, lying sprawled out on our lounge floor, drawing our latest fashion creations with endless supplies of coloured pencils, markers and note books…of course, being 3 girls in the house, my mom’s trips to CNA for stationery supplies and to our local haberdashery for fabric and sequins never ended!
I cherish these priceless memories and now that I have a daughter of my own (and another baby on the way), it feels like she is a little version of me, already starting to draw dress designs in her “Top Model” books and asking me if we can make them one day…yikes, I better brush up on my sewing skills.
But who knows, she might just follow in mommy’s fashion blogging footsteps!
